Enrollment Situation in Private Health Insurance by Type of Employment:Analysis of Middle Aged Male Employees

Abstract

The paper examines the effect of unstable employment on enrollment in private health insurance. The empirical analysis with logistic model used Korea Health Panel version 1.0, which include details about health and healthcare Data is conducted on male employees who are 40-65, who are expected to have high level of need to healthcare utilization and the benefit of private health insurance. Empirical results show that, after controlling for variables having a potential effect on enrollment in private health insurance, unstable employment have a significantly negative impact on enrollment of private health insurance. In short, the more unstable the employment status is, the lower the enrollment probability is. Inequality following employment type is not only from income but also from unstability itself.
